GOING GREEN

Many of us strive to make adjustments in our lives to help save our environment from much of the damage it has already suffered and continues to suffer from today.

Some may not even realize that their pool equipment is very likely to be one of the most inefficient areas of their home.

Element Pool & Spa uses Pentair® Eco Select™ brand products to help homeowners use fewer natural resources and save money.

“Going Green” with regards to your pool will save you electricity, natural gas and water. Therefore, you are not only helping the environment in several areas, but you are also saving money!

Here’s How:

Variable Speed Pump

IntelliFlo® and IntelliPro™ variable speed pumps use an exclusive permanent magnet motor (used in hybrid cars) in place of a traditional induction motor. This gives you a base energy savings of 30% and can be as high as 90% in certain applications.

When pump speeds are reduced by half, energy consumption is just 1/8th of what was previously used. The magnet motor and lower speed means a quieter pump producing less noise pollution.

Finally, since you end up running the variable speed pump at a lower speed most of the time, your pump will not heat up as much leading to a longer life.

Cartridge Filters

There are 3 main filter types used on swimming pools. Diatomaceous (D.E.), Cartridge and Sand.

While sand and D.E. filters are ideal for commercial pools, due to the fact that the filter needs to be backwashed several times a week for heavy pool use, they are not practical for residential pools. Backwashing a pool not only creates a mess but also uses a lot of water.

For example, if your pump circulates 50 gallons per minute and a typical backwash is anywhere from 2-5 minutes, then you are wasting 100-250 gallons of water every month.

A cartridge filter does not need to be backwashed. Instead, every six months it is split open and all the cartridges are rinsed clean of dirt and debris with your garden hose. This could save you thousands of gallons of water per year.

On a Pentair Clean & Clear® Plus cartridge filter, water flows freely causing less resistance on the flow meaning you could either use a smaller horsepower pump or select a lower speed on your variable speed pump.

Heating

There is no argument that solar heating is the most economical way to heat a pool. However, it is seasonal and does not provide water hot enough for an attached spa. For this, you need a pool heater.

The Pentair MasterTemp® heater is Low NOx Certified and offers the best in class energy efficiency. Many people don’t even use their heater or spa simply because it costs too much to run and takes a long time to heat their spa (sometimes 45 min. - 1 hr.). With the Pentair MasterTemp heater, most are able to heat their attached spa in half the time (usually 15 - 25 min.).

This equates to huge savings on natural gas costs and helps justify the cost of using your spa.

LED Light Technology

LED (Light Emitting Diode) lights have become more popular over the last few years because they are very bright and very efficient.

The Pentair IntelliBrite® LED pool light only uses 50 watts where as other pool lights use 150 watts. This is because an LED light uses 100% of the energy it draws where as a halogen bulb only uses a small fraction.

LED lights also last approximately 30,000 hours. An incandescent bulb has an approximate life of 5,000 hours. An LED light doesn’t have an internal filament that will wear out and runs a lot cooler.

The Pentair IntelliBrite LED pool light also allows you to use various colors and settings to create a beautiful atmosphere you may have only experienced at fancy resorts.
